[Videos] Moving Out
Moving Out is pretty funny and pretty hot, and the combination is pleasing. A lot of porn tries to be funny, but mostly it isn’t, relying on exceedingly crude and clich•d jokes. (The clich•d bothers me a lot more than the crude!) The writing here is far more amusing than I expected, especially with Renae Cruz (looking adorably nerdy in glasses) explaining how she plans to solve global warming by running a coal-powered factory to make air conditioners in Africa, references to dating site “Mismatch.com,” and various other genuinely funny gags . . . which, wonder of wonders, are jokes actually generated from the characters and their situation. Somebody working on this movie — I presume director Jonathan Morgan, long known for his sense of humor — actually gave a crap, and it shows.
I couldn’t help thinking the premise was like the setup for a sitcom clip show — you know, like an episode of Friends or something where Joey’s moving out and they all stand around the half-packed boxes and reminisce about the time they made out on that couch or found their friends drunk and passed out under the kitchen table or whatever. And there is a certain sitcom quality, with the odd couple (technically odd trio, but whatever) vibe of the roommates — the slutty blonde, the sophisticated Latina, the geeky activist Latina — and their wacky misadventures. This is no big-budget extravaganza, and it would be mere gonzo porn with an unusual flashback structure if not for the infusions of humor, and the fact that the performers make an effort to keep playing their characters even when they’re fucking. Speaking of the fucking, Renae Cruz is the cutest of the women here (and gets all the best jokes), but Maya Gates is the star of the hottest scenes, with some exceptional blowjobs and fantastic anal; her enthusiasm is wonderful to behold. It’s not all good — the final all-girl three-way is kind of confused, with too many toys flying around and not enough actual human connection — but the flick is mostly hot, and that relative consistency combined with the funny makes Moving Out worth looking up.
