The Rule of Unintended Consequences, as Applied to Highly Sexual Movies

Tony Comstock has a superb entry on his blog about the history of the X and NC-17 movie ratings, and how a simple, and at the time seemingly rational, decision on the part of the MPAA (to not trademark the “X” rating) lead to the death of mainstream movies that explored sex in a mature, interesting way.
