Corruption

Now, many porn reviewers — ahem, so I’m told — are known to fast-forward through inconvenient chunks of plot in order to get to the good stuff. Corruption is a four hour film. When I saw the running time, I confess, I anticipated doing a bit of fast-forwarding.

I watched every minute. Once or twice, I was even tempted to fast-forward through sex scenes to get back to the plot — though mostly the sex scenes were fully integrated with the plot, serving to further the story or illuminate things about the characters. It’s a story of political intrigue and dirty dealings, and also a love triangle — no, quadrangle — no, pentagon — hell, it’s complicated. Bryn Pryor gives a compelling performance as Republican senator and presidential hopeful David Walker Helms (great name, huh?). He has homicidal fantasies, thinks his constituents are scum, and the only bright spot in his life is his mistress, Natasha, whom he describes as a pretty little slut with holes for him to fill — a role she’s happy to play. She seems to thrive on depravity, and there’s plenty on offer here. Kylie Ireland does a very convincing job as the senator’s wife, who knows about and accepts his affairs, but worries that Natasha will spoil her husband’s shot at the political big time. He keeps taking his mistress out in public, and people are beginning to suspect an affair. So Kylie decides to kidnap Natasha, with the help of David’s assistant (who is desperately in love with him) . . . and things only go downhill from there. Nobody gets out of this story undamaged.

The trend to combine real stories and high production values with gonzo hardcore sex is an interesting one, and it doesn’t always work, but it’s a beautiful combination here. This is an over-the-top movie, with double anal and double vaginal penetrations, gangbangs, really rough sex, bondage, dirty talk, and a couple of scenes where the people fucking don’t even like one another, and don’t bother to conceal the fact, cursing at each other or crying uncontrollably. It all feels very emotionally raw and powerful, and it also suits the story, because these characters are so jaded and corrupt that only the most extreme acts of sexual experience can satisfy them. I never thought I’d see a movie where double anal and choking blowjobs were actually necessary thematically, but here it is. A lot of movies that depict such extreme acts do so soullessly, and it’s clear the performers are just grinding away for a paycheck, but the actors here really sell their roles. It’s hardcore, it’s complex, and it’s altogether satisfying.
