While I share your enthusiasm over the media finally recognizing that people have sex lives, I have to play the cynic and suggest that the only reason this is now happening is that television has lost so much of its viewer base to other options, such as the Internet. The television networks have - and will continue - to use whatever works to draw viewers. It isn't about honesty or realism - follow the money.

I haven't seen Swingtown yet, but my guess is that they'll have to go with the "ups and downs" route if they want the show to last for more than one season. I mean, having the main characters try swinging and then fail miserably doesn't give them as many paces to go.

I watched the first season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl on the BBC (no, I'm not in the UK, let's just not ask how I got my horny little hands on the show) and I really enjoyed it. As a web slut and phone girl, I don't know a lot about how the life of a prostitute, especially a high-class one, works, so I can't really comment on the reality aspect. I just know that we got to see some fun, titillating, emotional, and sometimes awkward experiences. And listening to her tell the camera what was going on in her head during it all made it feel much more personal.
