Caught in the Net: That Old Time Religion

Mennonite Mayhem

Religiosity and sex sometimes go together like jet fuel and open flames. Christians of various denominations, in particular, have a complicated relationship with sexuality. Is masturbation a sin? How about anal sex between a man and a woman? What about BDSM or cross-dressing? Fortunately, the internet is here to help!

Christians and BDSM is a site that seriously tries to reconcile the desire to tie up your spouse (or get tied up) and beat them (or get beaten) with the teachings of the Bible. Alas, their “What the Bibles says about BDSM” section is “under construction.” The Bible certainly does have a lot to say about slaves and bondage and women submitting to their husbands, though, so we’re sure they’ll be able to fill that page with little difficulty. Their Christian BDSM Questions and Answers is pretty fascinating, especially the answer to how Christian BDSM differs from secular BDSM: “It does differ from secular BDSM in that the relationship is (or should be) confined to a husband and wife in male dominant/female submissive roles. Also, the Bible is the ultimate authority . . . if something is ‘accepted’ in BDSM circles but prohibited by the Bible, then it is prohibited in a Christian BDSM relationship.” Sorry, would-be-dominant Christian girls. No whips for you!

You can find a different perspective on Christian BDSM at Sex In Christ, which has an extensive “Bondage in Christ: BDSM in a Christian Marriage” article, and concludes “We believe that a man can adopt a submissive and servile role and allow his wife to dominate him sexually, if it is absolutely clear that outside of the bedroom, the husband is the spiritual head of the marriage.” The same article points out the similarities between various BDSM toys — whips, floggers, etc. — and the devices used by early Christians to scourge their flesh and repent their sins, which is kind of a good point, actually. Sex In Christ is a totally straight-faced site, but a lot of people think it’s satirical, and with articles like “Fisting and God’s Will” and “Viagra and God’s Will,” we here at Caught in the Net tend to agree. Still makes for spiritually uplifting reading, though.

Enough text: Let’s talk about dirty pictures! Specifically Mennonite Mayhem — “When God’s Girls Go Bad!” Formerly good Mennonite girl Emily Stoltzfus posts pictures and videos of herself posing nude in lingerie and having sex, and occasionally she wears full Mennonite garb (which is not especially titillating clothing, it must be said). She claims she was shunned and thrown out of her community because of her wild sexy ways, and for a woman from a place where the horse-drawn carriage is high-tech, she’s certainly figured out how to run a pornographic pay site pretty well. We have not done extensive research to discover whether or not Ms. Stoltzfus is actually a Mennonite, but we’re giving her the benefit of the doubt. If you can’t trust a girl who posts naked pictures of herself online for money, who can you trust?

We don’t mean to focus on Christians exclusively, and in the future we’ll probably do columns devoted to Jewish porn, sexy Scientologists, hardcore Hinduism, and the like. Until next time, go with God.
