SDCC '08: Marvel Fashion Show Recap

In honor of the recently-completed Comic-Con in San Diego (which I didn’t attend, because I decided this year to save all my convention-going money to take a trip to Hawaii instead, where there will be fewer people dressed like storm troopers but far more mai tais), I decided to devote this week’s column to sex, superheroes, and science fiction.

First, straight from Comic-Con itself, a recap of the Marvel Fashion Show, featuring the gorgeous ladies of the Marvel comics universe live, in the (largely explosed) flesh, and in costume. Well, to be fair, they’re not actually depictions of particular heroes, mostly, but hot women in vaguely superhero-themed skimp-wear, from an oddly sexy Captain America to more expected lovelies like the Black Cat and (yum) Emma Frost. Video and pictures at the link.

In the world of online episodic science fiction, there’s buzz about a new show called The Fold, described as “Part sci-fi, part sex comedy, part art movie, THE FOLD interweaves stories involving a time-traveling geek with Aspergers Syndrome, an investigation by a Gaming Babes Magazine reporter, a sex-cult guru, a right-wing CEO determined to remake history, and a New Jersey hot tub salesman for whom things mysteriously start to go the right way.” It does look promising — check out the uncensored trailer here (boobies! girls kissing! obscene origami!).

From new media to old — Sci-fi blog io9 had a recent rant, “Spock Is Sexy? Illogical!”, with Graeme McMillan responding with shock to the assertion by several female acquaintances that the pointy-eared, logical, green-blooded, nerve-pinching, mind-melding, Vulcan science officer of the USS Enterprise is the sexiest character from Star Trek. He considers many possible explanations for Spock’s apparent sex-symbol status: “Is it the character himself? Is it the portrayal and good looks of Leonard Nimoy (and, soon, Zachary Quinto)? Just the very idea of makin’ it with an alien in the first place?” Me, I can see the attraction in a lover who’s smart, reasonable, dependable, trustworthy, and loyal . . . except when they occasionally go into a frenzy of violent and uncontrollable sexual desire. It’s the best of both worlds!

    Sasi Programmable Vibrator

The SaSi Programmable Vibrator is the next generation of sex toys. A small nub on the bottom of the toy pokes up under a soft silicone sheath. Turn it on and it moves in semi-circles, up-and-down, etc. It feels remarkably like someone else has a gentle-but-firm finger down your panties, fingering you in wonderful ways.

The SaSi learns what you like the more you use it, making it better able to get you off. It's also a vibrator with variable speeds. The controls are neatly laid out much like an MP3 player and it comes with an instruction booklet, display box, carrying bag and charger (did we mention it's rechargable?). It's water-resistant and about 5-1/4" x 2-1/4".

We've never tried anything that feels like the SaSi and we mean that in a very good way. Two fins waaaay up!
