Best Erotic Comics 2008

Best Erotic Comics 2008

There’s something about Erotic Comics that is just so hot. Maybe it’s the visual combined with the literary, the way a good artist/ writer team can focus your attention on a hot little detail that you might have missed otherwise. If you’ve been meaning to pick up an erotic comic but have no idea where to start, or if you’re a longtime fan and want to collect old favorites while getting ideas for new titles, this is the book for you. Best Erotic Comics 2008 has a bit of everything: vanilla to extremely kinky, gay to straight, romantically touching to emotionally troubling and pretty much anything else you can think of. Edited by former Blowfishie Greta Christina, the selection is eclectic and absolutely top notch; every single piece here is sizzling hot but full of literary merit; your time is well-spent wanking, er, reading over these brilliant graphic stories. Two fins up!

The Complete Omaha The Cat Dancer, Volume 2

The Complete Omaha The Cat Dancer, Volume 2

Attention all Omaha fans! The second volume of The Complete Omaha the Cat Dancer is here. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Omaha is a cat (well, cat with a very womanly body) who is renowned as one of the best exotic dancers around. In the first volume, she meets the tom cat of her dreams, but ends up having to flee her hometown’s corrupt government for San Francisco. The second volume is even wilder, with kidnapping, plot twists and intrigue that would make any daytime soap opera proud, and some very hot, somewhat scandalous, sex. Omaha the Cat Dancer was, and probably still is, the most banned comic book ever (apparently, the authorities simply can’t deal with its combination of great art, a coherent, mature story line, and lots of hot sex that has a great deal to do with the plot). Don’t miss out on the continuing adventures of Omaha and her friends. If you only buy one graphic novel, we strongly recommend this one.

Room Mates Vol. 2

Room Mates Vol. 2

About a month ago I brought on Room Mates Vol. 1 and talked about how I never dated my roommate’s friends. Well, things heat up even more in Room Mates Vol. 2, and it makes me wonder what would have happened if I’d gone spelunking in my roommate’s bedroom late at night, mmmm . . . Ahem, where was I? Ah, yes. Aside from some intra-roommate mating habits, Room Mates, Vol. 2 has the male roomie, Sebastian, fucking lots and lots of other girls — and pretty much all of them up the butt (whether they want it or not; don’t worry, it’s a theme in the comic and therefore ART, right?). And Teresa gets some girl-on-girl action as well. Overall, I think this one’s a tad bit hotter than the first. Just don’t leave it on the coffee table unless you want your roommates to think you’re hinting at taking things to the next level.

Gordon Lee Trial Date Set—CBLDF Needs Your Help!

Blowfish urges everyone reading this to support the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, and help with their defense of Gordon Lee:

For nearly three years the Fund has defended Georgia retailer Gordon Lee, seeing him through multiple arraignments and procedures, and racking up $80,000 in legal bills. The charges stem from a Halloween 2004 incident in which Lee handed out, among other free comics, an anthology featuring an excerpt from the critically acclaimed graphic novel The Salon. The segment depicted a historically accurate meeting between 20th Century art icons Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, the latter depicted in the nude. It was a harmless sequence, no more explicit than the nudity displayed in the award winning Watchmen. Yet because the title found its way into the hands of a minor, Floyd County prosecutors hit Lee with two felony counts and five misdemeanors. The Fund eventually knocked out most of the charges, but must now defeat the two remaining misdemeanor counts of Distribution of Harmful to Minors Material, each carrying a penalty of up to one year in prison and up to $1,000 in fines.

This link has information about the case and the CBLDF. For the months of June and July, Blowfish will donate 10% of the price of all comics sold to the CBLDF.

Room Mates Vol. 1

Room Mates Vol. 1

This week’s new comic, Room Mates Vol. 1, makes me wonder if I wasn’t missing something back when I had to share an apartment with two other 20 somethings. They had cute friends, sure, but I tried to do my sex-partner-hunting elsewhere to keep things kosher in the household. Thank goodness the characters in Room Mates aren’t so annoyingly moral! The girls throw a party in hopes of meeting their new male roommate’s hot friends (aka “fresh meat to fuck”). Cute, sexy and fun, this comic also takes loving your neighbor to the next level (”can I borrow some ’sugar,’” indeed!). Sexy young bodies and lots of spontaneous sex, what’s not to like? Full color.

Council of Carnality Unlimited

Council of Carnality Unlimited

Ok, so this next comic is totally a guilty pleasure. Council of Carnality Unlimited starts when the student council president, Asuka Shimizu, happens upon the new boy, Satou-Kun, while he’s masturbating in her office. Talk about the student body! She immediately asserts her dominance, making him display himself and toying with his bits until she gets, as they say in porn, a full load in the face. Then they take it to the next level, with her losing her virginity right then and there (yes, in the same scene — he’s all of 18, and you remember those days of short refractory periods, don’t you? Ahhhh). Ahem, where was I? Oh yes, so this is only the plot of the first chapter in this 10 chapter comic, and it just gets naughtier from there. This is H manga, so if you’ve never experienced it before, you should know that you need to read it “backwards”, that is, start from the back and read each page from right to left. Trust me, this adorable, sexy little tale is worth the extra effort!

Decadence: Japanese Fetish Art

Decadence: Japanese Fetish Art

Last week I featured Pink Box, a book of photographs from inside the current Japanese sex industry. But was it always so diverse? So intricate? So different from the clandestine sex industry we know in the west? Fear not, Decadence: Japanese Fetish Art has some answers. A very different book from Pink Box, Decadence focuses on Japanese woodblock art during the Edo period (c. 1600 - 1867), and is a fascinating look at the idealized version of life in the Japanese sex trade during that time (this is what happens when you don’t have cameras to properly document things). The beauty standards of the time are not always what we’re used to today: the elaborate hairstyles, blackened teeth and copious pubic hair might seem novel to a modern observer. There’s an emphasis on the genitals (which are often disproportionately large) and a bit of disturbing violence towards the end, giving validity to the book’s title Decadence. There are even a few modern drawings and photos to show just how far we have (or haven’t, in some cases) come. A truly fascinating glimpse into a very different world.

Borgia: Blood for the Pope

Borgia: Blood for the Pope

When I was a kid, there was one time we got a VHS tape from video store that was supposed to be a movie called Arthur. I’m not sure why my parents popped the tape in and left the room (a quick IMDB search tells me this wasn’t a kid’s movie). Anyway, what came on the screen was something I’ll never forget: instead of a happy alcoholic, there were naked people running through a forest, sex like I’d never seen before, and then a bit of sexual violence the likes of which I’d never even imagined before. The movie was Caligula. My parents came in around the time things were being chopped and immediately stopped the tape, ignoring my cries that I’d never know what happened now, gee, thanks Dad!

You may be wondering, by this point, why I’m telling you this. What I’m trying to explain is why I’m so fascinated by this next comic. Because, honestly, the illustrated retelling of Rodrigo Borgia’s rise to popedom is not your typical subject matter for an erotic comic book. But there’s something undeniably compelling, for some of us, about watching violence mixed in between or with nudity and sex. Borgia: Blood for the Pope is wrought with degenerate sex, gruesome violence and underhanded political scheming. There’s more violence than sex in this book, though some of the nudity is just lovely (it is drawn by Manara, after all). I just could not look away from this vivid and very disturbing comic.
