[Books] Best Lesbian Erotica 2008
I knew I was going to like this year’s Best Lesbian Erotica 2008 when I came across a mixed review of it that called some of the stories “demeaning.” I know, I know, as a feminist, I should be aware of and sensitive to these things, but part of me (the part that makes me good at my day job) couldn’t help but thrill to those words. Ooh, demeaning! I’ll be the judge of that!
And, sure enough, the stories in Best Lesbian Erotica 2008 are not what I myself would call demeaning, though I can see where someone might think so. Is it demeaning to be “forced” (as in, oh no, not the briar patch!) to take a big dildo up your ass after the Folsom Street Fair by a beautiful boi you just met? Is it demeaning to put on a show in the snow under a sculpture? Is it demeaning to submit to your lust when you’re caught in the rain with your friends? A good dash of kink peppers these well-written tales of lesbian lust, and I just thought it made the anthology that much stronger. Edited by the fabulous Tristan Taormino, these are not soft-focus, gentle stories of womanly love, but rough-and-ready tales of steamy hot sex. And, really, what more can I ask out of my erotica?
